Chiikawa Mod: Introduction & Guide

Authors

v0.0.4 Beta

Released May 14, 2026

🎉 What's new in 0.0.4

  • 🎵 Brand-new Music Box item: drop your own audio files (mp3 / wav / flac / m4a / ogg…) into the config folder, and the mod transcodes them so you can pick and play your own playlist in-game.

  • 🎸 Hachiware's new "Musician" job: hand him a Music Box with a song selected, switch to Work mode, and he'll pick up his guitar and perform — nearby players will hear it.

  • Hachiware's animations got a glow-up: blinking, breathing, idle micro-motions, plus polished shadows and hurt overlays — he feels noticeably more alive. The other characters will get the same treatment in upcoming releases.

  • 🌐 Massively expanded version support: now covers 1.20.1 ~ 1.21.11 and 26.1.2, so whichever version you've settled on, the mod should run on it.

What is this mod?

Chiikawa Mod is an unofficial Minecraft mod that drops the healing little creatures from the anime Chiikawa straight into your world.

It isn't a "reskin pet" mod. Beyond the 7 wild characters that spawn around the world, the mod ships a full taming system, profession system, doll-based revival ritual, and — new in 0.0.4 — a complete custom music performance system. Once it's installed, your save permanently gains a new cast of companions: noisy at times, comforting at others, capable of farming, fighting alongside you, and now performing your favorite songs on guitar.

📥 How to Download

The mod is officially listed on CurseForge — the cleanest path is to install it through a launcher rather than dropping the file in by hand. Most modern launchers (CurseForge App, Modrinth App, Prism, PCL2, HMCL) can search and install it directly from the mods browser.

🌏 Where to Find Them

Wild Chiikawa spawn in these biomes, mostly warm and temperate regions:

  • Plains: Plains, Sunflower Plains
  • Savanna: Savanna, Savanna Plateau, Desert
  • Other: Swamp, Snowy Plains

All 7 species share the same spawn rules and spawn solo (no packs) — every encounter is a one-of-a-kind moment.

💖 Taming & Daily Interaction

1. How to Tame

Hold a food item in your main hand and right-click a wild Chiikawa to feed it.

  • Success rate: 30% per feed.
  • Cost: one food item per attempt, succeed or fail — bring a stack.
  • On success: that character's unique tame sound plays, plus a happy little animation.
  • On failure: it does a confused head-scratch instead — try again with another bite.

2. Accepted Foods

Almost any edible vanilla item works:

🍎 Fruits & Vegetables: Apple, Carrot, Golden Carrot, Melon Slice, Potato, Sweet Berries, Glow Berries, Beetroot

🍖 Meats (Cooked): Steak, Cooked Chicken, Cooked Porkchop, Cooked Mutton, Cooked Rabbit, Cooked Cod, Cooked Salmon

🍞 Baked Goods & Snacks: Bread, Baked Potato, Cookie, Pumpkin Pie, Golden Apple

🥣 Soups & Drinks: Mushroom Stew, Rabbit Stew, Honey Bottle

3. After Taming

  • Healing: any of the foods above can be fed to a tamed pet for +4 HP per item (consumed only if the pet is below max HP).
  • Backpack: right-click your tamed companion to open its 16-slot inventory panel.
  • Main-hand slot: the first slot is the equipment slot — whatever tool sits here automatically determines the pet's active job.

💡 The mod doesn't include breeding — every companion is an individual you've personally tamed from the wild. Take good care of your party.

🧠 Three Behavior Modes

Crouch + right-click a tamed companion to cycle through three modes. The current mode flashes briefly on your action bar.

1. Follow Mode (default)

It tags along behind you like a small shadow.

  • If the distance exceeds 7 blocks, it sprints to catch up.
  • If the distance exceeds 20 blocks, it teleports to your side (no more "wait, where's my Hachiware…" moments after a Nether trip).

2. Sit Mode

Stays put — but its gaze still tracks nearby entities. You can feel it watching.

  • Doesn't move, doesn't teleport.
  • Perfect for parking it before a boss fight or while building delicate redstone.

3. Work Mode

The moment you flip to this mode, the pet locks its current position as its "workstation" and starts performing whatever its current job demands.

  • When there's nothing to do, it wanders around its workstation — never straying far.
  • See the next section for what each job actually does.

🛠️ Profession System

A pet's job is determined automatically by whatever tool you put in its main hand. Swap the tool, swap the job.

🌾 Farmer

Requirement: any Hoe in the main hand.

In Work mode, it will:

  1. Auto-harvest fully-grown Wheat, Potato, Carrot, Beetroot, Melon, and Pumpkin blocks within range.
  2. Auto-replant using seeds from its own backpack (Wheat Seeds, Beetroot Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds, Melon Seeds, Potato, Carrot).
  3. Auto-deposit harvested crops into adjacent Chests, Trapped Chests, Barrels, or Hoppers.

Drop it into your village farm or your enclosed crop pen and you've got an automation line.

⚔️ Fencer

Requirement: any Sword in the main hand — including all six vanilla swords and the three mod Subjugation Sticks.

  • Actively attacks nearby hostile mobs: zombies, skeletons, spiders, illagers (pillagers, vindicators…), blazes, ghasts, and other common monsters.
  • Attack cadence is roughly one swing per second.

🏹 Archer

Requirement: a Bow in the main hand + arrows in the backpack.

  • Same target list as the Fencer, but it keeps its distance and engages at range.
  • Supports the Infinity enchantment — a single arrow is enough if the bow has it.

🎸 Musician NEW

Requirement: Hachiware only — main hand holds a Music Box with a track already selected.

  • In Work mode, Hachiware picks up his guitar and performs the chosen track. Nearby players hear it.
  • During performance his guitar model appears and his mouth expression bone activates — he's playing for real.
  • If a hostile mob attacks him mid-song, the performance pauses; once he's safe, he picks it back up.

Full walkthrough below: Music Box & Custom Music.

🎵 Music Box & Custom Music

The headline feature of 0.0.4. Bring any song you want into Minecraft and let Hachiware perform it live for you and everyone nearby.

1. Get FFmpeg ready

The mod relies on FFmpeg to transcode arbitrary audio files into the in-game stream format.

  • FFmpeg is a free one-time install on most platforms (on Windows, make sure it's on your PATH after installing).
  • If the mod can't find FFmpeg, the Music Box UI shows a clear warning and a "Reload" button — just install FFmpeg and click reload, no restart required.
  • Server admins can sanity-check the install with /chiikawa music ffmpeg status.

2. Drop in your tracks

Open the server's (or single-player world's) config directory and find config/chiikawa/music/. Drop in any common audio format:

🎼 Supported formats: mp3 / wav / flac / m4a / ogg — basically anything FFmpeg can decode.

The mod transcodes them in the background. Default per-track length cap is 10 minutes, adjustable in config/chiikawa/music.json.

3. Pick a song from the Music Box

Hold the Music Box and right-click to open the song list:

  • Successfully imported tracks are clickable — click to select.
  • The item's name updates to show the current song (e.g. Song: your-favorite.mp3).
  • Tracks still being processed show as "Importing"; failed conversions show as "Failed".

4. Let Hachiware perform

  1. Right-click your tamed Hachiware to open his backpack, then drag the Music Box into the main-hand slot.
  2. Crouch + right-click to flip him into Work Mode.
  3. He picks up the guitar and starts playing 🎶.

By default, every player within 32 blocks of him hears the music — think of him as a walking, breathing BGM speaker.

5. Tips

  • Mini concerts: hand different Hachiwares different songs and host a forest music festival. The default concurrent session cap is 4.
  • Combat priority: if Hachiware is attacked mid-performance, he pauses; once the threat is gone, he resumes.
  • Admin command: /chiikawa music rescan force-reloads the music folder, so newly added tracks become available without a server restart.

💀 Death & Revival: Doll + Cake Ritual

⚠️ This is a hidden mechanic — most players don't know about it. Once you've read this section, your pets never truly die.

1. What happens on death

When a tamed companion's HP hits zero, it doesn't disappear like a vanilla pet — it drops a species-specific Doll item on the spot.

That doll fully preserves the pet's:

  • Entire 16-slot backpack contents
  • Current behavior mode (Follow / Sit / Work)
  • Job assignment
  • The custom name you gave it
  • Its ownership bond with you

Death is, effectively, a temporary transformation into a portable doll — one you can revive later.

💡 Every doll has a quiet tooltip hint: "Try placing the doll on a cake?" — that's the secret.

2. The revival ritual

Materials are simple:

  • ✅ 1 matching-species doll (the one that dropped on death)
  • ✅ 1 Cake (any bite state — fresh, half-eaten, doesn't matter)

Steps:

  1. Place the cake.
  2. Holding the doll, right-click the cake.
  3. A bite is taken out of the cake (or the last slice is consumed); the doll is consumed.
  4. Green happy-villager particles + heart particles appear above the cake for about 3 seconds.
  5. Your companion reappears at the cake — fully healed, all data intact, facing toward you.

💡 If the spawn position is blocked, the ritual aborts safely and the doll is returned to you — nothing is lost.

3. Creative mode note

In Creative mode, dolls aren't consumed on use — handy for testing. But remember: a doll stores that specific companion's exact state, not a fresh copy.

⚔️ The Three Subjugation Sticks

The mod includes signature weapons for Usagi, Hachiware, and Chiikawa. They replicate the anime's look and come pre-enchanted:

Weapon NameBase StatsEnchantments
Usagi's StickIron Sword stats🔥 Fire Aspect I
Hachiware's StickStone Sword stats💨 Knockback I
Chiikawa's StickStone Sword stats💨 Knockback I

The sticks count as swords, so they double as Fencer-job triggers — slip one into a pet's main hand and it gets both a thematic weapon and an active combat profession.
